In affinity with the New York City and global grassroots movements demanding social change, RECLAIM 4 aims to inform and raise awareness of youth and the community about the realities and urgent issues of Filipinos locally and in the Philippine motherland. It is also a celebration of Ugnayan's founding anniversary and the birth of Andres Bonifacio, a revolutionary leader of Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng̃ mg̃รก Anak ng̃ Bayan (the K.K.K. or the Highest and Most Honorable Society of the Children of the Nation). Founded in 1892, the K.K.K. was a national organization that defeated over 333 years of Spanish colonization in the Philippines. RECLAIM is proudly produced in the same unrelenting spirit and aspirations of genuine liberation.
The evening is set to open with a gallery visual artwork created by mostly women and LGBTQ-identified second generation Filipino Americans, Filipino im/migrants and hapas (of Philippine and other ethnic ancestry). Featured cultural workers include Rand Alegre, Kim Baglieri, Emmy Cathedral, Anang Palomar, Shannon Holloway and Jana Lynne Umipig. Performers range from New York University’s International Filipino Association acapella group, Pinakapella, an all-LGBTQ ensemble Sining Pandayan (Forging Art) multimedia performance, Ugnayan’s Philippines 101 Workshop Series graduates with an originally choreographed dance depicting decolonization, professional dancer Mica Bernas, hip-hop artists Kilusan Bautista, Hydroponikz and Ill-Poe, and live bands Happy Analogues and Rebstar and the Muffin Men. A documentary film by Glenn Gapultos will also showcase Ugnayan’s Justice for Adriane Campaign, an ongoing young restaurant worker’s quest to retrieve stolen wages.
RECLAIM 4’s array of cultural workers illustrate the event’s key message: take back what was once ours. Reclaim is a process in which vibrant, progressive youth repair the severed and lost ties to our roots. For some it means understanding where we came from, for others it can mean understanding why we left the homeland to begin with. Whatever your experience, whatever your journey, you are a part of this night of cultural resistance and empowerment. As youth and as a community RECLAIM aims to take a glimpse into what it means to RECLAIM and re-root to the true history of the Filipino people – the Filipino struggle.
Let us understand how our personal & local issues are interconnected with the struggles back home. Let us find comfort and connections in the music that comes from within and the raging words that come from our hearts. Let us seize this moment to collectively build a movement and Return, Reflect, Rise Up, and Resist!

Through collective leadership, progressive culture and community engagement, we strive to reclaim and re-root to the true history of the Filipino people to better understand how our local and personal issues are interconnected with the struggles at the Philippine motherland. We support the struggle for justice, peace, and genuine liberation of the Filipino people wheresoever we may call home and build our community.
