Ugnayan unites immigrant and US-born Filipino youth, especially the most marginalized youth facing multiple forms of oppression, including but not limited to: young women, youth workers, students, out-of-school youth, faith-based youth, professionals, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth, and cultural workers in any place or locality.

Ugnayan operates as an all-volunteer organization with the membership as the core of its leadership. From planning to implementation, every contact who becomes a member has an opportunity to contribute to the development of the organization; they are given an orientation, tasked for activities, invited for deeper education work and the skills are shared to run the organization. Space for democratic discussion, consensus-building, and collective decision-making is created to inspire the membership to take a proactive approach to providing solutions to the challenges they face as individuals and as a whole. We have monthly membership gatherings and weekly volunteer sessions where collective discussions, planning and tasking occur.
