Workshop 1: Weaving our Collective Story of Migration
Draw from our personal and family experience to learn about our collective history of migration to the US. Link our experiences to the larger reality of the Filipino people.
Workshop 2: Revising the Past
Examine the underlying problems in Philippine society that have kept majority of the population in perpetual poverty. Study and discuss issues of globalization,military bases, international trade and the economic implications of migration.
Workshop 3: Landlords, Loopholes and the Prevalence of Corruption
Know the major issues faced by Philippine society: land control and the power of the local ruling elite. Deepen our understanding of the struggle of marginalized sectors of society.
Workshop 4: The Filipino People’s Response
Understand the Filipino progressive movements’ approaches -- from lobbying for legislative reforms to armed struggle. Draw inspiration from the struggle of the Filipino people to advance our community here in the US.
*** A resource book for the course will be available for $10 for all registrants.
